Snowglide AF CBN grinding stone 70 mm

Snowglide AF CBN grinding stone 70 mm gives you the ability to tailor the side edge finish to the snow, the discipline, and the skier’s preferences. From coarse pre-grinding to the finest polishing, there are nine grit options to choose from.

The stones fit Snowglide AF-W, AF-C, AF-L and AF-1. All are intended for the side edge. A different stone series is used for the base edge on the AF-1.

CBN for precision grinding of steel

CBN stands for cubic boron nitride, a very hard abrasive material used for precision machining of hardened steel. Snowglide combines the abrasive with a specially adapted bonding agent. The range of grits means the same machine can be used for both more extensive edge work and a carefully selected final finish.

Choose grinding stone by work step

Lower numbers give a finer finish within the AF series. First choose based on how much work the edge needs, and then according to the surface finish you want to achieve. Snowglide’s recommended areas of use:

• L15 - ultra-fine: Polishing and a very fine finish for speed events.
• L25 - very fine: For speed events and aggressive snow.
• L30 - very fine: A fine option for aggressive snow.
• L40 - fine: An option for giant slalom and a meticulous final finish.
• L46 - all-round: The starting point for regular edge tuning.
• L64 - medium-coarse: For, among other things, slalom and icy conditions.
• L91 - coarse: A coarser surface finish for slalom on ice and indoor skiing.
• L125 - coarse: For coarser machining of the side edge.
• L252 - very coarse: For pre-grinding when more material needs to be removed.

Which stones do you need?

Start with L46 for all-round tuning. It comes with the AF-W and AF-C from Skidvalla.se. Add L40 if you want to work with a finer giant slalom finish, or L25/L15 for even finer polishing.

For larger changes to the edge angle or more extensive edge work, L252 is a practical complement. Snowglide’s AF-C manual recommends grit 252 for that type of prep work. Then choose a stone for the desired final finish.

Practical tip: Make sure the sidewall is cleared back enough for the stone to reach the steel edge. In the AF-C manual, Snowglide also explains that new stones need to be broken in before the finish can be assessed. Follow the machine’s user manual for break-in and stone changes.
