Files for steel edges

Files are used to restore dull or damaged steel edges and create the correct angle. Here you will find ski files in different lengths, cuts and tooth patterns for alpine skis and snowboards.

Choose a file based on material removal

• A coarse file is used for major damage and when a lot of material must be removed.
• A medium file is a common choice for restoring a dull edge.
• A fine file provides less material removal and is used when the surface is already close to the correct shape.
• A longer file provides stable contact, while a shorter file fits certain multi-tools.

File sparingly

A file permanently removes material from the steel edge. Use it only when a diamond stone is not enough, and always work in a guide that maintains the correct angle.

Finish with stones

After filing, the file marks should be polished away progressively with diamond stones, for example medium 400 and then a finer grit. A ceramic stone can provide a very fine final finish.
