Base wax for glide
Base glide wax, often called base prep or universal glider, is used to saturate and protect the base and to create a good foundation for the next glide wax. It is particularly well suited to new or freshly stone-ground skis.
When is base glide wax needed?
Use base glide wax during base preparation, after a major cleaning or stone grinding, before summer storage, and when a dry base needs to be rebuilt.
Choose hardness based on purpose
- A softer base glide wax penetrates easily and is suitable for saturating the base.
- A medium-hard universal wax works well for training and normal ski maintenance.
- A harder base layer can increase durability under a temperature-specific race wax.
Procedure
Iron in a thin, even layer, let the ski cool, scrape off the excess, and brush out the structure. Repeat if needed, but adjust the number of layers to the condition and structure of the base.
