Base edge tools hold a file or diamond stone at a specific angle against the ski base. The base edge angle affects how quickly the ski gets up on edge and how easily it turns.
Set the base edge angle carefully
Once the base edge has been filed, the angle cannot be reduced without regrinding the entire base. Therefore, use the file sparingly and work in small steps.
File for restoration - stone for maintenance
- Use a file when creating a new angle or restoring a damaged edge.
- Use fine diamond stones for normal maintenance and minor burrs.
- Mark the edge with a marker pen to check that the tool is contacting evenly.
- Keep the base free of filing debris during the work.
Choose the right angle
Common base edge angles are roughly between 0.5° and 1.5°, depending on ski type, skill level and use. Keep the factory angle if you are unsure.
