Fishscale and zero skis

Waxless skis also need care. Here you will find glide products, cleaners and anti-ice treatments for fishscale skis and zero skis from Swix and Vauhti. Choose a product that suits your ski type and helps you keep the base clean and reduce the risk of snow and ice sticking.

Fishscale, crown and zero - what’s the difference?

Fishscale skis have a pattern in the kick zone of the base that provides grip against the snow. They are also called patterned skis, and the term crown is used for this type of grip. Zero skis instead have a special kick zone that is roughened and developed for conditions around zero degrees.

Skin skis have a kick zone with a skin strip and are maintained with skin products. Therefore, check the ski type before choosing a treatment.

Choose the right product for maintenance

Glide for fishscale skis: Swix Easy Glide is available as liquid wax and spray. According to Swix, it is used over the entire base, including over the fishscale pattern, for better glide and a reduced risk of icing.
Cleaning and care: Vauhti Clean & Glide for Crown & Zero is intended for cleaning and maintenance of these ski types, especially in wet and dirty snow.
Anti-ice: treatment to prevent icing in sensitive conditions. Choose according to ski type: Swix Zero Spray is intended for the kick zone of zero skis, while Vauhti Anti-Ice for Crown & Zero is intended for both crown and zero skis.
Care in colder conditions: Vauhti Grip & Glide for Crown & Zero is an option for crown and zero skis in cold snow.

Waxless skis also need maintenance

Waxless refers to how the ski gets its grip. Clean the base when it gets dirty and choose glide and care products that are intended for the ski and the surface you are treating. A treatment for the entire base and a product for the kick zone only are used in different ways.

Follow the product instructions for application and drying time. The glide zones in front of and behind the kick zone also need care for the ski to glide well.
