Product description
Carrot M31 is an electric steel-edge sharpener for keeping alpine ski edges sharp with high precision and an efficient workflow. Fixed angle brackets and interchangeable grinding stones let you adapt both the edge angle and finish to the skier, discipline and snow conditions.
Its compact size and included carrying case make the machine just as useful in your home tuning room as at training camps and races. A well-considered choice for ambitious skiers, ski families and clubs that regularly prepare several pairs of skis. The machine was developed by Italy's Comax, drawing on extensive experience in sharpening and cutting tools.
Stable guidance and consistent results
The angle is set by a fixed angle bracket that rests against the base. This provides firm support throughout sharpening and makes it easy to return to the same side-edge angle. Brackets for 87° and 88° are included. If you want to work at another angle, angle brackets for 86° and 89° are available separately.
The angled grinding stone works in a defined direction, helping to limit wire-edge formation. The stone's feed can be adjusted for controlled contact with the steel edge, while the ergonomic grip provides good feedback as you guide the machine along the ski.
Choose the grinding stone to suit the job
The included synthetic #120 stone is a useful choice for regular maintenance and training skis. Changing the stone then lets you adapt the work, from establishing an edge angle to finer finishes for racing and speed disciplines.
| Grinding stone | Use |
|---|---|
| #80, synthetic | For establishing or changing the side-edge angle. |
| #120, synthetic | Regular edge maintenance and training for children, teenagers and adults. Included in the kit. |
| #240, synthetic | A finer finish for disciplines such as slalom and giant slalom, with a less aggressive edge than #120. |
| #320, synthetic | A fine finish for speed disciplines, especially super-G, where smooth handling and glide matter. |
| #500, synthetic | An even finer finish for downhill and flatter sections where glide is particularly important. |
| Finishing #46, synthetic | A special stone for a micro-serrated edge finish when racing on dirty, abrasive snow containing sand or gravel. |
| Ceramic grinding stone | For race preparation on very hard snow, ice and injected courses. |
| Diamond grinding stone | For advanced race preparation on hard, injected courses. |
The stones are alternatives for different tasks and desired finishes. You do not need to use the entire range every time you sharpen.
How to work with Carrot M31
- Secure the ski firmly and clean the base and steel edge. Check that the sidewall is sufficiently cut back for the stone to reach the steel.
- Choose the angle bracket and stone for the task. Disconnect the power when changing stones or brackets, and set the stone's position as described in the manual.
- Connect the supplied extraction attachment to a suitable vacuum cleaner to collect grinding dust at the machine.
- Hold the bracket firmly against the base and guide the machine along the edge at an even speed with light, controlled pressure. Let the grinding stone do the work.
- Check sharpness and surface finish between passes. Stop when you have achieved the desired result, and choose a finer stone if you want to refine the finish further.
Keep the machine's contact surfaces and extraction system clean for good guidance and consistent results. Follow the supplied manual for adjustment, cleaning and safe use.
