What do you need in your waxing box? Here comes a small guide with the most essential items!
- A good and stable waxing station – a sturdy workbench or a waxing bench.
- Ski holder / Ski clamp to secure your skis while you work on them.
- Waxing iron, with temperature indication. Do not use an old iron but one that is intended for ski waxing. Preferably one with a thick plate, around a centimeter. They keep the temperature even and stable throughout the waxing process.
- Plastic scraper
- Horsehair brush
- Nylon brush
- Bronze/Steel brush
- Paper towels, fiberlene, much more effective than regular household paper.
The following items can also be good to have but are absolutely not a must
- Thermometer to measure the snow temperature
- Machine-driven brushes, so-called rotary brushes you attach to a drill
Don't forget good ventilation or a protective mask
Glide wax:
You need at least three different glide waxes
- A red one for around +4 / -4 degrees
- A blue one for around -6 / -12 degrees
- A green or black, preferably graphite wax, -10 / -20 degrees. This one is used as a base for all competitions because it is durable. You can of course also use it as is if the specified temperature applies.
- When there are many plus degrees, glide wax is hardly needed. It has such poor durability that it doesn't last long anyway.
