If you want to clean your existing skis, you can follow these steps.
Cleaning existing skis:
- Start by brushing a few times in the direction of travel with a fine steel brush or brass brush to open up the base.
- Melt in a soft glider or a cleaning & saturation paraffin with the waxing iron on low heat (max 120°C). Don’t be stingy!
- Scrape off everything while the glider is lukewarm with a plastic or acrylic scraper. Old wax and dirt in the ski will now come off with this scraping. Brush the base with a nylon brush afterwards.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 a few times until the scraped-off glider looks clean.
- Melt in a soft glider or a cleaning & saturation paraffin. Let it cool indoors for about 15 minutes, scrape off and brush with a brass brush.
- Melt in a hard glider, type green or black, preferably graphite. We think Starts RG Glider Green is the best. Let it cool indoors for about 15 minutes, scrape off and brush about 10-15 strokes with a brass brush and medium pressure. If you use a steel brush, it will be about 4-6 strokes instead. If you are not going to wax the glide wax and ski directly after this cleaning and priming, leave this last layer unscraped until you are going to wax the glide wax and go skiing.
- Now go to the glide waxing guide and choose paraffin / glide wax according to the current weather.
Tip!
Repeat this treatment a few times during the season for optimal glide and a ski that lasts for many days on the slopes.
