SKIGO always recommends saturating the base of a new ski or after a grind to keep the base fresher significantly longer and prevent it from drying out.

When cleaning the base, you remove a lot of old waxes and particles that the base has absorbed. 

The wax effectively absorbs dirt particles from the base. Heat in with low heat, scrape off shortly after heating, and the ski is clean.
