Wax the skis and experience a much better glide. It simply becomes more fun and easier to ski.
On classic cross-country skis, the glide zones are waxed, i.e., in front of and behind the grip zone with grip wax. On skate skis and alpine skis, the entire base is waxed.
Many people neglect glide waxing, but it's actually not particularly difficult. The common mistake is neglecting to scrape and brush off the wax, if you don't do this, the positive glide effect is not achieved. Remember that wax-free cross-country skis should also be glide waxed, they only do without grip wax.
A modern ski base has lots of small pores (the more expensive the skis = the better the base = more pores). The paraffin should be heated into the base to enter the pores. Afterwards, the excess (everything that lies on top of the base) is scraped and brushed off. The paraffin is thus inside the base, not on top.
To heat in the wax, a waxing iron is needed. A waxing iron with a good thermostat and even temperature is a good investment.
