View full detailsThis is how base wax for glide works
Base wax for glide, sometimes called base prep or universal glider, is an important base treatment for the ski. It protects the base and makes your subsequent glide waxes adhere better and last longer. A good base wax also provides a more durable result, especially on new skis or after stone grinding.
When should you use base wax?
- When you have new skis that need to be saturated with wax.
- After stone grinding or major cleaning.
- Before the season starts to give the base a strong foundation.
- As training wax – universal glide works well in many conditions.
How to apply base wax
- Clean the base thoroughly with fiber cloth and possibly mild cleaner.
- Apply the base wax with a waxing iron at the recommended temperature.
- Let it cool completely, then scrape and brush out the base.
- Feel free to repeat the process several times for new skis.
Tip: By saturating the base with several layers of base wax, the ski becomes more resistant to dirt and the top wax performs better.
Advantages of base wax
- Protects the base against wear.
- Gives longer durability to top waxes.
- Makes the glide smoother and more predictable.
