This is how ski cleaning works

Cleaning is one of the most important steps in ski maintenance. The base collects dirt, old wax residues, and particles from the snow – all of this deteriorates both grip and glide. By keeping the skis clean, you get better results every time you wax.

Different types of cleaning

  • Cleaning for grip wax – stronger agents that dissolve can wax and klister without damaging the grip zone.
  • Cleaning for glide wax – milder products that remove dirt and wax residues from the entire base without drying it out.

How to use cleaning products

  1. Apply the cleaning agent with a fiberlene cloth.
  2. Wipe off and brush out the base in the direction of the glide until residues and dirt have disappeared.
  3. Let the ski dry completely before applying new wax.

Tips for best results

  • Always use a clean fiberlene cloth – it effectively absorbs both dirt and old wax residues.
  • Avoid strong solvents not intended for ski bases – they can dry out the base and shorten the ski's lifespan.
  • Clean lightly and often rather than rarely and hard.

Cleaning at the end of the season

Before storing the skis for the summer, it is especially important to clean them thoroughly. Dirt, wax, and klister left behind can dry into the base and complicate next season's waxing. Therefore, clean the skis thoroughly and preferably apply a protective base wax that remains during storage.

FAQ – Common questions about ski cleaning

Do I need different cleaning for grip and glide wax?
Yes, grip wax requires stronger agents, while glide wax is removed with milder cleaning to avoid drying out.

How often should I clean the skis?
After a few outings, or when the base looks dirty and the glide deteriorates. Always before summer storage.

Is cleaning important even for training skis?
Yes, clean bases make even simpler wax adhere better and last longer.
