Product description
The Swix gummi stone removes surface rust and burrs from the steel edges of alpine skis and snowboards. It can also be used to gently soften the edge at the tip and tail when you want a more forgiving ski.
Which hardness should I choose?
The three versions have partly overlapping uses. They differ in how soft or firm the rubber is and in the work each stone is primarily intended for.
- Soft (T0992): A versatile choice for removing surface rust and burrs. The flexible rubber also works well for gently rounding the edge at the tip and tail, known as detuning.
- Hard (T0994): For light cleaning and polishing of the edge. Well suited to removing small burrs and wire edges after filing, leaving a more even edge.
- Extra hard (T0995): The firmest version, especially intended for removing very small burrs after filing. An alternative to the hard stone if you prefer firmer rubber for deburring. A clean, burr-free edge helps retain sharpness for longer.
Use a light touch: When deburring, the aim is to remove the small metal burrs while preserving the edge's sharpness. Rounding the tip and tail is a separate step carried out as needed.
How to use the product
- Wipe the edge clean and check for surface rust or burrs.
- Use light pressure on the areas that need cleaning.
- After filing, use the hard or extra-hard stone for a few light passes along the edge surface. Follow the existing edge angle and avoid rounding the cutting edge itself.
- If the tip or tail needs softening, the soft stone is a good choice. Work a little at a time on the relevant area and check frequently how much sharpness you are removing.
- Wipe the edge clean after the work.
