The Swix World Cup base-edge file guide helps you sharpen the underside of the steel edge at a precise, consistent angle. Its anodised aluminium construction provides a stable, durable tool for careful work and even results along the entire edge.
Precise control of the base-edge angle
The base-edge angle, also known as base bevel, is the slight angle of the steel edge's underside relative to the base. The guide holds the file at the selected angle as you work along the edge. Each model has a fixed angle, so choose the one matching the ski's existing preparation or the angle you want to set.
Choose the angle
- 0.3° - Swix TA003
- 0.5° - Swix TA005
- 0.75° - Swix TA075
- 1.0° - Swix TA010
The angles refer to the underside of the steel edge facing the snow. Use a side-edge guide to work on the side of the steel edge.
How to work with the file guide
- Secure the ski firmly with the base facing up. Make sure the base and the guide's contact surfaces are clean.
- Position a suitable ski file securely in the guide and rest the guide's contact surface against the base.
- Use light pressure and even strokes in the file's cutting direction. Keep the guide in consistent contact with the base and remove filings as you work.
- Finish with a fine stone to remove wire edges and polish the edge while maintaining the angle.
Once the base-edge angle is set, maintain it primarily with a fine stone. Reducing an existing base-edge angle normally requires the base to be ground flat before the new angle is set.
