Swix Ceramic Stone

The Swix ceramic stone is a fine ceramic sharpening stone for honing and final polishing of steel edges on alpine skis and snowboards. Used after a file and diamond stones, it gives the edge a smooth, mirror-like finish and longer-lasting sharpness.

Honing for a smoother, more durable edge

Honing means fine sharpening and polishing as the final step after grinding. The ceramic stone smooths small irregularities and removes fine burrs that could otherwise fold over or break off while skiing. A smooth, burr-free edge stays sharp longer while refining the edge angle you have already established.

Removes wire edges after sharpening

The ceramic stone can also gently remove the wire edge, the thin metal burr that can form along the cutting edge when sharpening steel. A few very light passes along the base side of the edge help produce a clean, even cutting edge. Follow the existing base-edge angle and avoid tilting the stone over the cutting edge itself, as this can round off the sharpness.

How to use the product

1. First complete the work with a file and diamond stones. The ceramic stone provides the final finish on an already even edge.
2. Mount the ceramic stone in a suitable file guide with the same angle as the sharpened side edge.
3. Make a few very light, controlled passes along the side edge to hone and polish the surface.
4. Carefully remove any wire edge from the base side with a few light passes. Follow the existing angle, preferably using a suitable base-edge guide, and avoid rounding the cutting edge.
5. Clean metal residue from the stone after use.
