Valla cross-country skis - Cleaning of existing skis

If you want to clean your existing skis, you can follow these steps.

Cleaning the sliding surfaces of existing skis:

    1. Start by brushing a couple of times back and forth with a fine wire brush or brass brush to open up the coating.
    2. Melt in a soft glider or one cleaning & saturation paraffin with the cast iron on low heat (max 120C). Don't skimp!!
    3. Sickle everything away while the glider is warm with a plastic or acrylic sickle. Old chaff and dirt in the ski is now included in this sickling, which you should see on the sickled away glider. Bthen brush out the coating with a brass brush.
    4. Repeat steps 2 and 3, until the sickled slider looks clean.
    5. Melt in a soft glider or one cleaning & saturation paraffin. Allow to cool properly indoors for approx. 15 min, sickle away and brush out with a nylon brush. If you are not going to ski and ski immediately after this cleaning, leave this last layer unslicked until you are going to ski and ride.

Cleaning the attachment zone of existing skis:

    ADHESIVE REMOVAL:

Place the fiberlene over the adhesive. Use a hot iron to gently heat the adhesive on the skis through the tissue paper. This softens the adhesive and makes it easier to remove. Now that the glue has softened, use a scraper to gently scrape away both the fiberboard paper and the glue. Be careful not to damage the coating. Clean the attachment zone with a suitable ski cleaner to remove any adhesive residue. This step is important to ensure that the skis are completely clean. Use a clean cloth or lint-free cloth to wipe the attachment zone. Roughen the attachment surface with fibertex or sandpaper. This will remove any detergent residue and prepares the surface for new wax.

    MOUNTING WALL REMOVAL:

Use a scraper to gently scrape off as much wax as you can. Clean the attachment zone with a suitable ski cleaner to remove any attachment wall residue. This step is important to ensure that the skis are completely clean. Use a clean cloth or lint-free cloth to wipe the attachment zone. Roughen the attachment surface with fibertex or sandpaper. This will remove any detergent residue and prepares the surface for new wax.

    Tip!

Repeat this treatment a few times during the season and you will get an optimal glide and a ski that will last for many training miles and Vasalopp.
