What is bio-based ski care?

Bio-based describes the origin of the raw materials. In ski care, this can for example refer to plant waxes, beeswax, or bioethanol. Here we gather products where the manufacturer describes the bio-based content. Read the individual product description for information about raw materials, area of use, and application.

Bio-based wax from Swix and Vauhti

Swix North 100N is a solid universal wax that, according to Swix, contains 100% natural ingredients, including carnauba wax, sunflower wax, beeswax, and juniper berry oil. It is available in two sizes.

Vauhti 360 includes both solid and liquid glide wax as well as base cleaner and skin care. Vauhti describes the ingredients as plant-based and states that the raw materials come from rice, corn, and sugar cane. In the liquid products, bioethanol is used as the solvent.

Choose the product according to the task

Glide wax: choose solid or liquid wax depending on how you want to wax. On classic cross-country skis, you treat the glide zones in front of and behind the grip zone.
Base cleaner: for cleaning the skis’ glide zones before new waxing.
Skin care: choose a product specifically intended for the skin strip on skin skis. The glide zones in front of and behind the skin are waxed separately.

Follow the product instructions for amount, application, and drying time. Bio-based describes the raw materials and is not in itself a statement of biodegradability.
