Old snow is more aggressive and abrasive than new snow and it requires banks with better wear resistance. On the other hand, it is relatively easy to get hold, but it is required that the ramp is hard enough to maintain the slide. The synthetic retaining walls are tougher and harder than the tar retaining walls and are therefore also more durable while maintaining glide. To ensure that the ridge stays on the surface, especially for longer distances, primer wax is recommended under these ridges.
The thin layer of base wax should be heated with a cast iron.
The retaining wall itself must be corked with synthetic cork .
