Old snow is more aggressive and abrasive than new snow and requires waxes with better wear resistance. On the other hand, it is relatively easy to get grip, but the wax needs to be hard enough to maintain glide. The synthetic kick waxes are tougher and harder than the tar kick waxes and are therefore also more wear-resistant while maintaining glide. To ensure that the wax remains on the base, especially for longer distances, base wax is recommended under these waxes.
The thin layer of base wax should be heated in with a waxing iron.
The kick wax itself must be corked in with synthetic cork.
